NYMC Private Lessons

We are a teacher-owned private lessons company, allowing us to bring you the best teachers at the best possible rates for lessons in person or online! You can take lessons in your own home, in our teachers’ studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan, or from anywhere in the world. Get started today!

How much do lessons cost?

We’re able to keep tuition low because our teachers keep a much larger portion than those working with traditional profit-driven lesson providers. The base rate is $95/hr in home or $60/hr for remote lessons.

Visit our pricing page for details.

We offer discounted trial lessons and discounts for 4-week or 8-week commitments.

What is a co-op?

Check out our About page for more information about the benefits of our cooperative business model!

Can adults take lessons?

Absolutely! As much as we all love teaching the little ones, we admire our adult students for choosing the come back to the instrument, or grow from passionate amateurs into semi-pros who play recitals and concerts!
If you’re interested in starting from scratch or coming back to an instrument you regret putting down after high school or college, you’re in the right place!

How long and how often are lessons?

Weekly hour-long lessons are the standard, but frequency is more important than duration. If time or finances demand, 30 and 45-minute lesson packages are offered by many of our teachers.

When should kids begin lessons?

It depends on the student, but as a rule of thumb:

  • 5-7 years old - piano, voice

  • 8-10 years old - guitar, woodwind, and brass instruments

Where do the lessons happen?

Many of our teachers offer in-home lessons, with some offering lessons in rental studios conveniently located in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Private lessons via Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime are convenient, affordable, and effective, as teachers and students around the world have learned to optimize remote learning.
