Russell Carter II is a New York City based drummer, educator, and composer. Russell is a graduate of Howard University, where he received a B.A. in Jazz Studies, and studied with the legendary drummer, Grady Tate. As a drummer, Russell has performed alongside artists such as: Jean Carn, Marc Cary, and David Murray among others, and has toured and performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Russell has also recorded as a drummer, and composed music on several internationally released albums, and multiple albums released locally in NYC. As an educator, Russell has taught in public, private, and charter schools, teaching subjects such as band, general music, percussion, and various music electives. Russell has also taught private drum and percussion lessons at music schools and for students who personally sought him out for drum lessons. Currently Russell can be seen performing regularly in various New York City venues, while also continuing to perform internationally, record, and teach.
